Geriatric Nursing
Assistants (GNAs)
-- Nursing Jobs
There's quite a
sizeable number of job opportunities for any GNA in Maryland, just like for
any Maryland Registered Nurse RN, Licensed Practical Nurse LPN and Certified
Nursing Assistant CNA. These CMA jobs are available through other channels
since the Agency has suspended operations. The CMA jobs in Maryland vary by
employment and geographic setting within Maryland. Some Baltimore City,
Baltimore County, Montgomery County, Prince Georges County, Anne Arundel
County and other Maryland counties' nurses employers, report difficulty
filling job openings for Maryland RNs, LPNs, CNAs, CMAs and other nurses and
nurses aides.
Responsibilities
Agency nursing personnel, who are qualified and authorized to practice
as Geriatric Nursing Assistants (GNAs) perform very important nursing
functions, under the direction of
doctors, nurses and nurse managers.
Typically, a GNA's work duties include:
|
■ |
Providing
direct patient care |
|
■ |
Taking vital
signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and
respiratory rate) |
|
■ |
Turning and
repositioning bedridden patients to prevent breakdown
of their skin |
|
■ |
Changing bed
linens |
|
■ |
Recording
amount of oral intake and measuring urinary output |
|
■ |
Collecting
specimens for tests |
|
■ |
Supplying
and emptying bed pans |
|
■ |
Interacting
with patients and family |
|
■ |
Transporting
patients and equipment as needed |
|
■ |
Keeping a
record of care given |
|
■ |
Monitoring
patients and reporting any variances to normal to the
nurse for further
assessment |
|
■ |
Following
infectious disease precautions to prevent the spread of
organisms. |
Agency managers
and client facilities must consider that GNAs spend much of their time with
patients who are ill or injured, sometimes doing unpleasant work such as
changing bedpans. It must be appreciated that the GNAs are compassionate and
truly interested in helping others, spending a lot of time walking and
moving about, and exert great strength in turning, lifting, and assisting
patients with movement.
Our GNAs work in a variety of settings like nursing homes, hospitals,
doctors' offices and other outpatient facilities, long term care facilities
and clinics.
